Quality Manager - Building & Construction
- Adelaide, SA, Australia
- Full time
McMahon Services is looking for an experienced Quality Manager to join our Building & Construction team.
This is a senior opportunity for someone who is passionate about quality beyond compliance – building practical systems, developing people and working alongside project teams to improve the way we deliver.
Reporting to the General Manager – Construction Major Projects, you’ll take ownership of quality management across our Building & Construction portfolio, including our ISO 9001-certified Quality Management System, Inspection and Test Plans, internal audits, quality training, non-conformances and continuous improvement.
Importantly, this isn’t a role that sits on the sidelines. You’ll work closely with Construction Managers, Design Managers, Project Managers and site teams, providing practical guidance and helping build greater consistency and capability across our projects.
We’re looking for someone who can bring strong technical quality knowledge together with leadership, communication and the ability to positively influence people at all levels of the business.
About McMahon Services
McMahon Services is one of Australia’s largest privately owned construction, industrial and environmental services organisations, employing more than 1,300 people across Australia.
Our Building & Construction team delivers projects across commercial, industrial, Defence, government, education, health and community infrastructure.
We’re proud of the projects we deliver, but equally proud of the people behind them. We invest in our people, encourage continuous improvement and provide genuine opportunities to influence how we work and build a long-term career with the business.
About the Role
As Quality Manager, you’ll be the senior point of accountability for quality performance and continuous improvement across our Building & Construction Customer Stream.
You’ll own and maintain the application of our ISO 9001-certified QMS across Building & Construction, lead the internal quality audit program and help standardise the way quality is managed across our projects.
A major part of the role will also be working with our people – delivering practical workshops and training, mentoring Quality Coordinators and Advisors, and supporting project teams to strengthen their understanding and application of quality requirements.
You’ll have the opportunity to look across the broader portfolio, identify recurring issues and trends, and drive improvements that reduce defects, rework and quality-related costs.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the application and continuous improvement of the ISO 9001-certified Quality Management System across Building & Construction.
- Support annual external certification audits and ongoing ISO 9001 certification requirements.
- Develop and maintain quality policies, procedures, templates and systems.
- Establish quality objectives and KPIs and report on performance and trends.
- Develop and standardise a Building & Construction-wide library of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
- Review project-specific ITPs and ensure appropriate hold points, witness points and acceptance criteria are established.
- Develop and lead the annual internal quality audit program across projects and functional areas.
- Conduct site and desktop audits and support project teams with corrective actions.
- Own and oversee NCR and defects management, identifying trends and recurring issues.
- Lead root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and deliver practical quality workshops and training for project and site teams.
- Mentor and support Quality Coordinators and Advisors.
- Work closely with Technical, Design, Construction and Project Managers to resolve quality issues.
- Prepare quality performance reporting for senior leadership.
- Represent the quality function with clients, certifiers and regulatory bodies.
- Provide quality input into major tenders and project quality management plans.
What You’ll Bring
- Significant quality management experience within building, construction, engineering or industrial services.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and audit methodology.
- Experience implementing and maintaining an ISO 9001-certified QMS.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering internal audit programs across multiple projects.
- Strong experience developing, reviewing and standardising ITPs and quality documentation.
- Experience managing NCRs, defects, corrective actions and root-cause analysis.
- Strong understanding of construction quality requirements and methodologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence working with project teams, senior leaders, clients and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to identify trends and turn findings into practical improvements.
- Ability to influence outcomes and build credibility across teams without relying solely on formal authority.
- Current White Card and Driver’s Licence.
What Will Set You Apart
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quality Management or a related discipline, or equivalent senior quality management experience.
- Certified Lead Auditor – ISO 9001 or equivalent recognised auditor qualification.
- Working knowledge of the National Construction Code and relevant Australian Standards.
- Experience across commercial, industrial or Defence construction.
- Experience managing external ISO 9001 certification audits.
- Experience using Procore, Aconex or similar quality/document management platforms.
