McMahon Services is delivering major civil utilities works on what is set to be the biggest infrastructure project ever carried out in South Australia, and we’re looking for experienced Civil Pipelayers to join our Civil & Infrastructure team.
Work is already underway and there are years of work ahead. This is a rare chance to put your skills to work on a project of real scale, laying large trunk water mains, sewers, stormwater and underground services that will help shape the future of this state.
You’ll work alongside experienced Supervisors, Engineers and civil crews, with strong leadership, high safety standards and plenty of room to grow your skills on large diameter pipework you won’t find on every job.

About the Role
As a Civil Pipelayer, you’ll play a key role in building the underground pipelines and services for the biggest infrastructure project South Australia has seen.
Working alongside experienced crews, Supervisors and Engineers, you’ll contribute to the installation of water, sewer, stormwater and associated underground services, ensuring works are completed safely, accurately and in accordance with project specifications.
You’ll be involved across pipeline installation, trenching, bedding, alignment, grade control and associated civil construction activities within a busy and complex major-project environment.
The types of work you’ll be involved with include:
- High voltage PVC conduits and precast pits.
- Large diameter MSCL trunk water mains.
- Large diameter Sewer Max and RCP trunk gravity sewer, with precast and insitu manholes.
- DICL, PVC and HDPE trunk mains and connections.
- Large diameter RCP and StormPro stormwater.
What You’ll Do
- Install water, sewer, stormwater and associated underground infrastructure.
- Undertake pipelaying, trenching and associated civil construction activities.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, plans and levels.
- Assist with setting out, pipe alignment and grade control.
- Use laser levels and survey information to achieve accurate installation outcomes.
- Prepare trenches, bedding and surrounding areas for pipeline installation.
- Undertake pipe laying, jointing and installation in accordance with project specifications.
- Work safely around existing and underground services.
- Work within trench and excavation environments while following relevant safety controls.
- Coordinate with Operators, Supervisors and wider civil crews.
- Maintain strong safety, environmental and quality standards across all activities.
- Support the wider project team as required to keep works progressing safely and efficiently.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience in civil pipelaying and underground service installation.
- Experience installing water, sewer and/or stormwater infrastructure.
- Experience working around live services, trenching and excavation works.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans and levels.
- Experience using laser levels and grade control equipment.
- Good practical understanding of pipe installation, bedding, alignment and levels.
- Current Driver’s Licence.
- Current Construction White Card.
- Strong understanding of safe work practices around underground services and excavations.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a civil construction crew.
- Reliable, practical and team-focused approach.
- Ability to meet relevant project and site access requirements.
