McMahon Services is looking for an experienced WHSEQ Advisor to join our Building & Construction team in Adelaide.

This is a hands-on operational role supporting the delivery of commercial and Defence construction projects across South Australia, working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers, Supervisors and subcontractors.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys being out on site, building relationships and working alongside project teams to make safety and quality part of how the job gets done – not simply a compliance exercise.

About the Role

As WHSEQ Advisor, you’ll partner closely with our Building & Construction project teams to support the implementation of McMahon Services’ WHSEQ systems and help maintain safe, compliant and well-managed construction sites.

Based in Adelaide, you’ll spend time across our commercial and Defence project sites, providing practical advice, coaching and support to operational teams.

You’ll be involved in everything from inspections, audits and risk management through to SWMS, subcontractor onboarding, incident investigations and project meetings.

Just as importantly, you’ll build relationships with the people delivering the work and help strengthen a proactive WHSEQ culture across our projects.

What You’ll Do

• Support the implementation of McMahon Services’ WHSEQ systems and safety programs across Building & Construction projects.
• Partner with Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers and Supervisors to support safe project delivery.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, safety observations and risk assessments.
• Provide practical WHSEQ advice, coaching and mentoring to project and site teams.
• Support the development and maintenance of Project Risk Registers and WHSEQ Plans.
• Review and support the implementation of SWMS, JSEAs and other project safety documentation.
• Assist with subcontractor onboarding and ongoing compliance.
• Participate in project meetings, toolbox talks and site safety activities.
• Support incident investigations, corrective actions and lessons learned.
• Monitor WHSEQ performance and assist with project reporting.
• Support quality and environmental requirements across project sites.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and work with teams to implement practical solutions.
• Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a WHSEQ, HSE or Safety Advisor role.
• Experience within commercial construction, building or a similar project environment.
• Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety.
• Strong understanding of construction WHSEQ requirements and site-based risk.
• Experience supporting project and site teams with SWMS, risk assessments and WHSEQ documentation.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Confidence working directly with site-based teams and subcontractors.
• Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet.
• Ability to work autonomously while supporting multiple project stakeholders.
• Current Construction White Card.
• Current Driver’s Licence.
• First Aid qualification.
• Flexibility to travel to project sites across South Australia as required.

• ICAM Investigation Training.
• Lead Auditor or other relevant audit qualifications.
• Experience supporting complex or high-value construction projects.
• Strong quality management exposure alongside safety.
• Experience working with Principal Contractor WHSEQ requirements.
• Strong relationship-building and influencing capability.
• A practical approach and willingness to challenge the way things are done when there’s a better solution.

Defence Project Requirements

Our Building & Construction portfolio includes Defence-related projects.

As this role may support Defence project delivery, applicants must be Australian Citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain the appropriate Australian Defence Security Clearance and project/site access requirements.
